Storehouse – Harvest 2013
Storehouse – Harvest 2013
Thank you to all those local churches and schools who have collected food donations for Storehouse foodbank. The Storehouse team and myself have just been blown us away with the generosity. A truly brilliant effort! We have counted that 19 churches and 6 schools have been involved in food collections from Sudbury and the surrounding areas. And those are just the ones we currently know about!
You may have picked up on the national news that the need for foodbanks has increased by a third in the last year. A third of service users are children and a third more rely on them as they fall through the cracks of the benefits system. These statistics reflects the local picture too, which has seen a sharp demand in referrals from our agency partners. Some of you may have heard Beryl Worvell, our Storehouse Team Leader, speak on BBC Radio Suffolk last Wednesday on the increasing need in our area and how we are personally responding. These are challenging times for sure, but are also times of opportunity for God’s light to shine even brighter in the community.
If you aware of a family or individual in crisis, please do let us know. It takes a lot of courage to walk through our door and seek help. Those in crisis can often feel unworthy or simply ashamed to ask for help. We are here to show only God’s kindness and, by his grace, help restore their broken spirits and troubled minds. SO do please speak to us.
You can contact the Storehouse Team directly by email: storehouse@stourvalleyvineyard.org or ring: 07973 710905. Alternatively, we can forward your requests via Stour Valley Vineyard Church office or website.
Meanwhile, please will join us in beginning to pray for our preparations for the two weekends at Waitrose supermarket coming up this Christmas? More news on this event will follow shortly.
Thank you and God bless.
