Peace at Christmas! Christian Aid Christmas Appeal

27 November 2018 No Comment

An amazing visitor spoke at Sudbury Apostolic Church yesterday – Zeina Zakar. She works with Al Najdeh charity, a Christian Aid partner, in Palestinian camps in Lebanon. (Warm thanks to Paul and Jacqui Clapham for hosting it).
There are 12 official camps for over 75000 refugees, supported by UNRWA but since the US has withdrawn funding, the need is dire. Camps lack clean water, sewage disposal and basic medical care. Homes can be damp & mouldy, with faulty electric wiring (children have been electrocuted). Education is minimal and many children get none. Palestinians are barred from many professions in Lebanon so take menial work. Al Najdeh focuses on empowering women in work and home and runs play groups and counselling for children.

Simon Snell, Suffolk C. Aid Coordinator, is in the next London Marathon! Let’s support him and the Christmas Appeal.  Cheques to The Kings Centre King St Norwich NR1 1PH or Email to info@christian-aid.org or simply phone 0207 5232493 to donate.    Please promote this in your church. See www.christianaid.org.uk/christmas-appeal/christmas-appeal-church-resources for a poster.

This year Christian Aid asks us to Be a peacemaker this Christmas. To learn more, and to find how individuals and churches can donate to the appeal, go to www.christianaid.org.uk/christmas-appeal .

Simon Snell, Regional Co-ordinator for Suffolk, has been to Sudbury several times for meetings and services, and came with Zeina yesterday. In 2019 he is running in the London Marathon (and he is not as young as he looks!). For more information and to sponsor him, go to www.bit.ly/marathon2019 .
