New Shimpling War Memorial

At the Remembrance Sunday service on the 8th of November 2015 the Rev. Matthew Lawson dedicated at St George’s Church, Shimpling  (Alpheton and Shimpling Parish),  the new village  war memorial, made by Mr Paul Woricker from neighbouring Stanstead.

It was suggested two years ago, by the former council chairman, Ken Durant that it would be good to have a new memorial, as the existing one on either end of the altar, is rather inconspicuous.  This idea gained support from the villagers, Parish and Church Councils alike, all of whom were delighted to attend the dedication of the new war memorial which remembers the fourteen Shimpling men who lost their lives in the First World War as well as the four who died in the Second World War.
