Why & how do we pray?
Why & how do we pray? Second Sudbury Muslim/Christian dialogue, 2nd February
Two Saturdays ago, thirty Muslim and Christian men met in St Gregory's Church Hall to discuss “prayer”.
After introductions by Rev. David Stranack from St. Gregory’s, Imam Bashir from the Colchester Mosque and Rev. Colin Chapman from Cambridge each gave a 10 minute talk about their respective faith & practice. Then, relaxing with delicious food provided by Shah from Cafe Massala Long Melford , we shared our own experience of prayer in mixed groups . Imam Abdul Jabril, who usually leads Muslim Friday Prayers in the Hall also took part. A surprise to finish: a Muslim lady gave a summary of Islamic prayer practice.
Prayer is very important to both faiths and we sensed a common desire to seek the heart of God, despite some important differences in our perceptions about Him.
Warm relationships are developing between the two groups and between individuals as we meet in Sudbury.
Thanks to CTiS&D for supporting this event, and to all who took part. Any suggestions for next time?
