Earlier last month, Sudbury saw the introduction of Town Pastors, a voluntary group of Christian men and women, supported by Churches Together in Sudbury & District, whose mission is to share their love of God in the community by patrolling the centre of town on a Saturday night between 10pm and 4am. After 2 years of talking about town pastors, we are nearly ready to begin to operate in Sudbury. Eight people have completed training and another dozen have been prepared as prayer supporters. Initially it seems we will have enough man/woman power to put a team out on the streets for one week night but as other people come forward and undertake training we hope to increase that. “A real credit to the town!”
…..is the comment Inspector Paul Crick gave at a recent reception held at Sudbury Police Headquarters for the town’s Town Pastor scheme. The reception was held to say ‘thank you’ to the Town Pastors and to present a cheque for £100 which had been kindly provided via Councillor John Sayers by Suffolk County Council’s Locality budget in recognition of the work undertaken since the launch of Town Pastors last August. Town Pastors not only prove they have a valuable spiritual contribution to make but they can also be in the right place at the right time when it comes to first aid. Recently, while out on patrol, the Pastors were called to an emergency where a young man had collapsed unconscious in the street.
