“Of Lies and Love” – 2010

22 March 2010 No Comment

On Easter Saturday 3rd April at 11 am, Churches Together in Sudbury & District will be recounting the Easter Story events following a route through Sudbury.  The cast will be dressed in costume of the period lending to the atmosphere of some 2,000 years ago, but using modern speech will be followed by their own 21st century roving “TV Reporter”.

The pageant begins at 11am with Festivities at The Croft and follows Jesus’ anguish in The Garden where He is arrested, marches with the Roman soldiers to the top of North Street for the Trial by the Priests.  The drum beat leads followers down to St Peter’s for The Trial by the Citizens and the Trial by Pilate.  The Way of the Cross proceeds through the Market, Gainsborough Street and Gregory Street back to The Croft for the Crucifixion.  Following the “TV News Debate” on the whereabouts of The Body, the procession joins in the joyous portrayal of the Resurrection. The Rev’d Greg Webb of St Gregory’s Church will close the event with a short address after which, refreshments will be available in St Gregory’s Church.

Over 100 people from around the area are involved with this epic portrayal which has taken over a year to plan and produce. Organiser and script-writer, Eleanor Ridge, commented:

“It is a tremendous privilege to be involved with this event.   The depth of loving commitment by the cast and the ready assistance of so many others binds us together regardless of the different portrayals of our faith and going over the details of Christ’s final hours cannot fail but bless each one of us.  Just realising that it was Lies that sent Jesus to the Cross, but Love that held Him there, has been a wonderful insight.  From writing, to rehearsals, to presentation, this whole event has been a joy and a great privilege.”
