Hello Volunteers,

I thank you for your interest in our work at the reserve. Here are dates for the Autumn work party programme. The work will often involve physical tasks but there will also be other opportunities for helping me with monitoring, e.g. dormouse survey, water or soil testing, so please do not exclude yourself on fitness grounds. The sessions will start at 10am and finish at lunch time. If you need to leave early or even stop on into the afternoon, that’s fine. If you are involved with local publications, please advertise these dates (all Fridays):

Please contact me to check that any given work party is going ahead before you come. The dates may be subject to change or cancellation. It is also helpful to have an idea of numbers attending.

Works planned for the season include willow scrub clearance, cutting sedge and other tall vegetation, pond excavation, fish refuge excavation and bridging, boarding out persistent wet areas on paths, topping & laying blackthorn scrub etc. Please note that the major 140m boardwalk installation planned for September will be undertaken by Essex CC contractors – they are unable to permit volunteer labour.
