Burger Bonanza!
Sudbury Town Pastors and Men In Christ ran a hugely successful burger bar at Sudbury Town Council’s Party in the Park last Sunday – proof of how working together as a team of Christians drawn from all over Sudbury, can certainly make things happen!
Only 10 days before the event, Sudbury Town Council asked if Churches Together could help out by running the stall; they had been offered 400 burger buns by Warburtons who are keen to work alongside local charitable causes and the council were struggling to find someone who could take on such a big task so late on in the day.
Keen to help Sudbury Town Pastors raise their profile in the town (and knowing how they needed to raise funds) Men In Christ rallied together with Peter Avery and Kevin Jones to get organising and with the support of many church folk, barbeques were borrowed, burgers were bought, banners displayed and people arrived to set up, cook and sell.
Despite the heat of the three barbeques and the sunshine, they came up trumps. This was an excellent way to publicise the Town Pastors who, in their third week of operation, have provided much needed community support each Saturday night between 10pm and 4am. The generosity of Warburtons cannot go unnoticed either, with a proud heritage of supporting local communities, this family firm was keen to be a part of the event too. Over the past twelve months approximately 250 charities and organisations have been helped by Warburtons either through financial support, product donations and the many other ways.
Commented Town Mayor of Sudbury, Councillor Adrian Osborne: “The town council fully support the work of the Town Pastors and we are pleased to welcome them here today. We are also very grateful to the enormous generosity of Warburtons with supplying all the buns!”
Stepping out in faith, 400 burgers were purchased to go into the donated buns and every single one of them went. This event clearly illustrated the close working partnership between Churches Together in Sudbury & District and the town council, it was also an excellent way for the public to see Christians working together in a fun and lively atmosphere; in addition, it proved the ideal way to get the message out to the people of Sudbury that the Town Pastors are here!
