A Christmas Message
From Tom Burrows, Chairman, Churches Together in Sudbury & District. As Christmas approaches, I have been thinking about “what would this time of the year be like if Jesus had never been born”. It is said that Christmas is the busiest and most profitable time for shops and businesses as it is more a commercial holiday. I know that most Christmas Pantomimes are what keeps a lot of theatres solvent throughout the year. If Jesus had not been born there would be no big profit and no celebration.A recent survey said that less than fifty percent of people considered themselves as Christians, so more than fifty percent just enjoy the food and gifts not giving a thought to the true celebration of Christmas. What they haven’t realised is the reason we give gifts at Christmas is to remind us of the amazing gift that God gave to this world. God loves us so much He gave us the ultimate gift, His Son Jesus. In this time of unrest and difficulty around the world and in our own lives, remember what Jesus said in John 14 verse 27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”Remember Jesus loves you and cares about you. I finish by wishing you all a blessed Christmas full of the love and peace of Christ.
