4 February 2011 No Comment

1.       Helen Matter, the Diocesan Schools’ Adviser for the Church of England, has sent me this flyer about Open the Book training in Stowmarket on 12 March. More information and booking details are on the flyer.

2.       Sarah Friswell, visitor officer for St Edmundsbury Cathedral has sent me this link about Christian Aid’s ‘Poverty Over‘ campaign which is coming to the cathedral 3 – 18 February. In particular, there will be a presentation evening led by staff from Christian Aid on 3 February at 7.30 p.m. in the Cathedral Centre.

3.       Click for Suffolk Theology Forum’s programme for 2011 .

4.       For the activists amongst you I attach a link to a Church Action on Poverty video. It is of particular relevance to any of you who shop in Ipswich where we have a brand new BrightHouse store. ( BrightHouse is a weekly-payment store complete with all the credit-trap problems you would expect.)

5.       Kathleen Ben Rabha, the Diocesan Community Affairs Adviser for the Church of England, has been in touch to say that she is hoping to set up a Criminal Justice Forum which will  look at issues such as people trafficking, mental ill health among those in prison who don’t get treated and the disproportionality around The Stop and Search figures etc.  If anyone is interested in becoming involved please will s/he get in touch with me in the first instance.

6.       Just a reminder that Poverty & Homelessness Action Week is 29 January  – 6 February with the important and disturbing theme this year of ‘Who Counts’. Here is a link to the site from which you will see that there are no registered events in our county although i know there is a lot going on quietly which makes a real difference.
