Two local choirs are joining forces to present one of the largest and most exciting works of the choral repertoire this Spring.  Choral Societies from Sudbury and Haverhill will perform Verdi’s Requiem at St Edmundsbury Cathedral on Saturday 5^th May at 7.30 pm. 

Verdi’s Requiem is as dramatic as his operas, the most well-known section being the Dies Irae with its terrifying depiction of the Day of Judgement. 

Sudbury Choral Society was established 65 years ago while Haverhill can trace their roots back to 1860, but this is the first time that they have come together to put on a major work.  The combined choirs, totalling some 120 singers, will be conducted by David Butcher, who has been Sudbury’s choirmaster for 20 years, and Jane Wright, who is in her tenth year as Haverhill’s leader. 

The concert will feature four accomplished soloists:

 - Soprano, Julie Roberts

 - Mezzo Soprano, Hannah Mason

 - Tenor, Ben Thapa

 - Bass, Mark Saberton.

Feb 27th – March 11th is Fairtrade Fortnight.

The Sudbury Town Fairtrade Group are organising a Fairtrade Clothes Show on March 1st, 7:30pm at St Peters.

Please support it, and download and display the poster. (This is a jpg – please re-size to fit your paper.)

We need about 30 models. Would teenage girls and women who are between size 10 -18 and willing to model Fairtrade clothes please get in touch with Rev John Boardman on  01787 372738.

‘Quiz and Pudding Night’ on Saturday March 10th at All Saints Church Hall, Church Street, Sudbury at 7.30pm.

Tickets available from The Eden’s Project, 45 Gainsborough Street, Sudbury. Tel 01787 375247 £5 per head. 

Refreshments included in ticket price – a selection of puddings and a hot drink.  (Soft drinks will also be on sale). 

We are looking for teams of six contestants – but Churches can have any number of teams. 

Parking will be available in St Gregory’s School Car Park (at owners risk).

 Flyers will be available in Churches very soon. Eden’s is receiving great blessing from God at present but continues to live with ongoing financial concerns, so please support this initiative if you can.

Our next meeting is on 4th February 2012 at Delphi Social Club, Alexander Road, access of Newton Road, Sudbury, it begins at 10.00am and finishes at 12.30pm.

Vicky Leonard is our speaker and she attends Sudbury Baptist Church and has recently returned from Nepal where she served for 6months with BMS using her vocational skills as a paediatric physiotherapist. She has an amazing testimony to God’s goodness in her life and how 6 months on mission have changed her forever. Come and be encouraged as to what can happen when you are obedient and say “Yes, send me”.

Cost for the morning is £3 which includes refreshments served at the end of the morning.
